Eagle versus Owl

Memphis University School

The Owl on tape, the Eagle in the film room. EYES OPEN watched what MUS could do; ZERO lit up two past scores, then left Friday’s board blank.

Study on Wednesday, a statement on Thursday. Two different openings for the same road trip to Memphis. Brentwood Academy won Friday’s game, 63-14.

Take

Left: the Owl's first running take, which opened his beak as he launched. Right: take two, with the beak closed through the run. EYES OPEN uses 2.35–5.55 seconds of take two: a beat of stillness, the launch, then empty sky.

Take

Left: ZERO's second take under the dark board. The Owl turned sideways and opened his beak again. The third prompt asked him to hold still instead; right is that take, with the beak closed and the board still dark. The reel uses 1.50–7.30 seconds, after he settles.

Pitches that lost

Same Friday

Two teams coming off a win, with their two Friday-night scoreboards side by side.

Why it lost It repeated EVEN's split-screen shape from the week before and spent the best facts from both EYES OPEN and ZERO in one reel. The film room and the dark board gave the pair two different openings.

One thing we learned

The Owl kept turning his head when the shot asked him to look up. After two failed takes, asking him to hold still gave us the clean ending. The head tilt was optional; a closed beak and a blank board were the parts we needed.
